TAKE THIS JOB AND...

I  had a job I really liked.  I allowed myself to be chased away from it by a manipulative co-worker and a weak boss.  Over  time since that happened I have been through a roller coaster of anger, self doubt and deep depression.   So when I read news about employees who  take a gun onto work when they are going to be laid off, there is a part of me (my reptile brain?) that can relate to the frustration and anger - the lashing out.

On the other hand, there is this guy.  A Jet Blue steward who, after being hit on the head by a passenger taking his luggage down from the overhead bin and not receiving an apology,  cussed out all the passengers over the PA.  Then he grabbed a couple of beers,  inflated the emergency chute at the back of the plane and jumped.  He ran across the tarmac and through the airport and was arrested at his home in Queens a while later.

Now that was an exit!

I just want to quit quietly, but I haven't had the gumption to, yet...

That story was one for the records. How long before we see him on the talk shows?

I'd bet anyone who says they haven't thought of kicking a job to the curb mostly because of the other people involved are lying.

That guy is going to be a hero for disgruntled employees everywhere.

One of my friends owns a small contract employee agency. One of her contractors quit her assignment, and on her last day hired a limo to pick her up from the office. As she rode away in the limo, the employee stood up out of the sunroof, margarita in hand, and yelled, "So long f*ckers!"

Which she regretted six months later, when she went crawling back to my friend to ask for another work assignment.

Whoops.

Now that's some excitement on the tarmac!

I used to have to travel a lot for work at a previous job, and I swear the ratio of asshats to normal people is 1 to 50 -- every single airplane had to have at least one self-centered jerk who wanted to stash a steamer trunk in the overhead bin, argued about seat assignments, yelled at flight attendants, and made all the other passengers long for an excuse to yell "terrorist!" and wrap the jerk in duct tape. I don't know how airline personnel cope -- their wages are going backwards, management treats them like dirt, and the flying public complains about everything. The only thing that surprises me about this story is that it doesn't happen more often.

You've got to admire his panache. So much classier than gunning down your coworkers!
